St Cuthbert’s House and Restaurant Hjem made Northumberland proud at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, competing for the most coveted accolades in English tourism.

During tonight’s virtual VisitEngland Awards for Excellence Awards Ceremony, both St Cuthbert’s House and Restaurant Hjem had reason to celebrate, with St Cuthbert’s House taking SILVER in the B&B and Guesthouse of the Year category, and Restaurant Hjem taking BRONZE in the Taste of England Award category.

A number of Northumberland’s fantastic tourism businesses completed a single application for the highly esteemed awards, and St Cuthbert’s House and Hjem were amongst them. Hoping to be recognised for their excellence, both have waited in anticipation after being shortlisted on 28 July 2020 in their categories and put forward to a national judging panel.

Making Northumberland proud tonight, it was revealed that they had stolen SILVER and BRONZE in their categories, beating off stiff competition as 53 finalists competed in 15 core categories. The awards confirm that St Cuthbert’s House and Restaurant Hjem have exceeded expectations and delivered excellence during the last 18 months.

David Hall, Chair of Northumberland Tourism, said: “The awards acknowledge the sheer excellence of Northumberland’s tourism offering. Our businesses go the extra mile to ensure the highest quality of service, leaving visitors with memories that make them come back time and time again.

“We would like to congratulate and commend both St Cuthbert’s House and Restaurant Hjem for this outstanding achievement.”

Cllr Cath Homer, cabinet member for Culture, Arts, Leisure and Tourism said: "Time and time again Northumberland is recognised as a top tourism destination and this is testament to the businesses that make up our diverse tourism sector. A huge congratulations to both St Cuthbert’s House and Restaurant Hjem for their much-deserved awards at the Visit England Excellence Awards.

"We're so lucky to have such a fantastic tourism offering, meaning whether visitors are discovering Northumberland for the first time or are seasoned travellers they are guaranteed to make memories that last a lifetime."
