Northumberland wins in Countryfile Awards

BBC Countryfile magazine has announced the results of the first-ever annual Countryfile Magazine Awards – and Northumberland has featured strongly amongst the winners.

Alnwick is the proud winner of 'Britain's best market town', beating stiff opposition from Richmond in North Yorkshire and Stow on the Wold in Gloucestershire. The Hadrian's Wall Path was also voted 'Britain's Greatest Walking Trail'.

Also featuring was Northumberland National Park, which came third in the 'Favourite National Park' category, and Belsay House and Gardens, which came second in the 'Britain's Finest Garden' category.

Winner of the Conservation Project of the Year is the Northern England Red Squirrel conservation project.

Congratulations to all our winners.
