Tourism in Northumberland - review underway
Northumberland's tourism offer must be championed locally, regionally and nationally and supported by its own industry and leading partners to maintain or grow market share.
However, the past 12 months have seen a significant reduction in the availability of public sector funding with the closure of One North East in March 2012. Changes in regional and national structures place a greater emphasis and focus on local determination of priorities and delivery. Now, more than ever, the public, private and third sectors must work together in partnership to make the most of limited resources and to provide leadership for the sector in Northumberland.
Stakeholders have recognised the value of Northumberland Tourism and did not want to lose the momentum the organisation had created. A level of continuity is considered to be critical in the development of any new arrangements. NVEP – the 'Northumberland Visitor Economy Partnership' is not a new organisation but rather a new approach to developing and growing Northumberland's visitor economy. It has evolved from and builds upon the success and work of Northumberland Tourism but allows for wider involvement from a larger number of partners to work together and achieve growth in the sector.
