Businesses along the Pennine Way and Hadrian’s Wall can benefit from a new tourism initiative to attract walkers from Germany, the Netherlands and the USA, thanks to £1m from Visit England’s £40 million Discover England Fund.

England’s Great Walking Trails, is a Discover England Fund Project being managed by Marketing Peak District and Derbyshire. The Pennine Way and Hadrian’s Wall are amongst 7 National Trails selected to be part of this exciting project.

Businesses along the Pennine Way and Hadrian’s Wall can benefit from a new tourism initiative to attract walkers from Germany, the Netherlands and the USA, thanks to £1m from Visit England’s £40 million Discover England Fund.

The funding will help develop 3 to 14-day walking itineraries that take visitors off the beaten track, into the heart of rural England. The walk is only half of the experience, as the itineraries will highlight places to visit, eat, drink and stay along the way.

Why should you get involved?

* This is a fantastic opportunity to have your business promoted to international markets (Germany, the Netherlands and the US).

* Free training which will include:

Welcoming walkers from Germany, the Netherlands and the US, with key insights, backed up by research, into how to meet their expectations to deliver a good experience.

Working with overseas tour operators to increase sales including pricing, lead-in times and booking expectations.

The importance of being on the National Trail.

Business support to ensure you are ready to welcome international walkers.

We are pleased to announce that Cumbria Tourism and Northumberland Tourism are working in collaboration to deliver the training and business support for this new multi million pound programme.

If you are on or close to either the Hadrian’s Wall National Trail or the Pennine Way National Trail and would like to be part of this great opportunity, please sign up to one of the upcoming workshops.

During the workshop we will provide further insight into the project as well as deliver the training as described above. Please note there is NO CHARGE for being part of this project or for the training, we simply ask that you are engaged with the programme to promote your local National Trail and are prepared to work with us to ensure your business is ready to welcome walkers from these international markets.
